Brand-New Audiobooks for the Penny Pangolin Series!
We have some amazing news! Audiobooks are coming soon for the Penny Pangolin series, narrated by the great David McCormack, the voice of Bandit Heeler, Bluey's dad from the hit cartoon show Bluey!
I got to travel to Sydney, Australia to observe the recordings for myself, and we had an absolute blast working together! David is a true professional and a genuinely awesome dude to work with. Right from the beginning, David was friendly and cordial. He remembered our first time meeting at the Lexington Comic & Toy Expo in 2024 and thanked me for the set of books I had given him.
The recording took place at Sound Kitchen, a fantastic studio to work with that specializes in audiobooks production (huge shoutout to Bill and Karly). Dave settled into the recording room, while Bill and I planted ourselves in the spaceship-like control room, each of us with iPads preloaded with all six of the Penny Pangolin books. The process was smooth and straightforward. Dave did an initial read-through to get a feel for the book, and then we went back through each book page-by-page, often getting multiple takes for individual lines so that the absolute best could be chosen for the final product.
For me personally, highlights of the experience include chatting with David about international travel, having him make me a cup of tea between recording books, and recording the video together. Recording of all six books happened over two sessions, which gave me a weekend of leisure time to enjoy Sydney. On the last day, David brought me some fun goodies that included a Bandit mug (which he signed) and shirts and vinyl records from his rock band ventures Custard and David McCormack and the Polaroids.
This was just an all-around fantastic experience, and I was sad when it ended. However, I was also extremely satisfied with what we had accomplished, knowing these audiobooks are going to be top-notch!
The recording happened in May 2025. As I type this blog post in early July 2025, we already have the completed audiobook files ready to go! They are being set up on all the digital platforms, such as Audible, and we're making sure everything is done just right for a successful launch. PR and marketing campaigns are about to begin, which will span the markets of North America, UK, and Australia/New Zealand. This is exciting to say the least! Be sure to tell all your friends so we can make sure these books are a HIT and we can justify doing more of them in the future!
The new audiobooks are set to officially launch by October 1, 2025. This also happens to be the anniversary of the Bluey show!
Following release, the audiobooks will be available from the Penny Pangolin Shop, other online retailers (Audible, Apple, Kobo, Chirp, Spotify, etc.), libraries, and for free download with the purchase of the hardcover books. As of the writing of this post, the audiobooks and new print books are available for pre-order.
All six Penny Pangolin books are being released / re-released with newly imagined covers in both paperback and hardcover. The hardcovers include the audiobooks and are extremely high-quality print with dust jackets and full-color endsheets.
